Introduction
Bayreuth lies in south-eastern Germany on the river Main and is served by the A9 motorway which passes just 2km to the east of the city, and the A70 motorway which is 8km to the north. The closest airport to Bayreuth is Nuremberg Airport some 90km to the south-west.The long-distance rail network in Germany used to include Bayreuth's main station, but this hasn't been the case since 2006 and now it is served only by regional and local train routes. Amongst the trains stopping at the main station are the direct service to Dresden, the Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg to Bamberg line and also trains to Weiden and Schnabelwind.
