Rail Guide to Brest

Introduction

Much of the action in Brest takes place by the sea, whether you’re walking along the docks at sunset, taking the children to Oceanopolis or exploring the Maritime Museum. As with many ports in northern France, Brest suffered heavy damage in WWII, but constructions like the impressive Pont de l'Iroise bridge have transformed the city. Additionally being home to the University of Western Brittany, which is attended by over 20,000 students, means there is no shortage of cultural exploits or things to do after dark. If you’d like to see what Brest looked like before the war, head to the Tour Tanguy, a 14th century tower that document’s the town’s history.
