Introduction
Like many of Europe’s the most influential cities, Bucharest is located on the banks of a river, in this case the River Dâmboviţa. As well as the river, there are several lakes in the city including Lake Tei, Lake Colentina and Lake Floreasca, which have largely shaped the way that the city has grown. In the centre of Bucharest, there is an artificial lake which is surrounding by beautiful gardens. These gardens are widely recognised as the central recreational facility in the city.
Apart from the multiple lakes, there are thought to be seven main hills in Bucharest which again have influenced the layout of this somewhat sprawling city. In total, Bucharest covers around 225 square kilometres.
