Introduction
Dubrovnik is not a particularly large city and most of the activity and development is focused around the port which has been the source of most of the wealth that this city has seen. There is still evidence of the origins of this city in its modern day geography. Dubrovnik was formed when a small town on a nearby island merged with a settlement at the foot of the Srd Hill. During the 12th century, the land between the two parts of Dubrovnik was finally taken over by the inhabitants and became the central plaza that now marks the centre of this city.
