Kordel is a tiny, sleepy station lying just outside the Roman city of Trier, which offers a lovely walk directly from the station, to the nearby ruins of Ramstein Castle (Burg Ramstein). Standing 182-metre-high amongst the forest, there is a wonderful circular route allowing you to take in the castle (and the cafe directly on the site), the beautiful Butzerbach valley with the Römerpfad trail and the stone blocks and sharp stone struts through the valley. The walk is especially good for adventurous children, with hanging bridges, a stream and some moderate hiking, it all adds up to a magical, wholesome day out!
