Introduction
Mainz lies on the river Rheine in western Germany just 45km south-west of Frankfurt. It is served by the A60, A643 and A671 motorways and benefits from its proximity to the river with river boat services and river cruises to local destinations and those further afield including Ruedesheim, Ingelheim and even Cologne. For international destinations, Frankfurt airport lies just 16km away to the east and is reachable using the S-Bahn service.Mainz's main station (Hauptbahnhof) is the first stop on the ICE line to Frankfurt. The station is further served by trains on the ICE route linking it to Karlsruhe, Worms and Koblenz.
