Historically Metz has not been a hotspot for tourists, however in 2010 the Centre Pompidou-Metz opened, and has attracted over a million visitors since. This cultural centre with futuristic design hosts exhibitions, film screenings and performances, and has a restaurant on site too. It is undoubtedly the jewel in the crown for this north eastern town, however those with an interest in religious architecture can visit Saint-Pierre-aux-Nonnains, one of the oldest churches in the world, and Saint Maximin, which has stained glass windows designed by Jean Cocteau. There are plenty of little bistros to keep your appetite at bay, and this being the Lorraine region it would be a crime to leave without trying one of their famous quiches.
