Introduction
Metz lies towards the north-eastern corner of France that borders Luxembourg and Germany, making it a great base from where to see and explore beyond France's borders. This is made all the easier with Metz Railway Station being connected to the French high speed train (TGV) network and thereby to Paris (Gare de L'Est) and Luxembourg via direct high-speed services. There is also another railway station located 25km to the south of Metz in Louvigny, which provides further services including TGV connections to destinations such as Lille, Nantes and Bordeaux. The local Métrolor train service is reliable and comprehensive and amongst other destinations, serves Luxembourg International Airport which is the closest major airport. There is a closer airport from where there is a limited domestic flight schedule, namely Metz-Nancy-Lorraine Airport; this is situated in Goin approximately 15km south-east of Metz and serves destinations such as Marseilles and Toulouse in the south of France.In terms of the road connections, Metz benefits from being on the intersection of two major roads; the European route E50 connecting Paris to Prague, and the A31 Motorway joining Metz with Luxembourg to the north and Nancy, Dijon, and Lyon in the south.
