World famous champagne houses like Taittinger, Ruinart and Veuve Clicquot have their headquarters in Reims; all offer tours of their cellars as long as you contact them in advance. Alternatively you can tour the vineyards on the Montagne de Reims, a popular hiking site which is just a ten minute drive away from the town. Champagne aside, there are several UNESCO World Heritage Sites which are worth seeing, among them the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims, an incredible gothic construction that receives over a million visitors each year. The 16th century Palace of Tau has seen the coronations of many French kings and houses some splendid tapestries, and there are even vestiges of the Roman empire dotted around such as the Gallo-Roman sarcophagus at the Basilique Saint-Remi.
