Introduction
Stralsund lies in the north-eastern tip of Germany on the Baltic Coast. As it is such a major tourist destination in itself and as the gateway to the beautiful island of Rügen, the road transport links are very good with several motorways leading directly to the town. The rail links are also good, with efficient connections to major cities such as München, Karlsruhe and Berlin operating from the main train station.In addition to the main train station, Stralsund Rügendamm Station serves the island of Rügen with trains running from Rostock to the west of Stralsund through to Sassnitz in the Jasmund National Park on the east of the island. The direct train from Stralsund to Sassnitz takes around 45 minutes and runs at least every hour until around 22.00, beginning at around 05.00 in the morning.
