Up until the 1970s Vierzon was home to car manufacturers, ironworks and other light industries, however little of this remains today. Nowadays many visitors use Vierzon a good starting point for tours of the Champagne region, but the town itself has plenty to offer sightseers. Most of the historical architecture dates back to medieval times; the 12th century Notre Dame cathedral has a vault designed to look like a ship, while the old town has pretty timbered houses and a gothic bell tower. The Lucien-Beaufrere Public Gardens pay homage to the now defunct local industries with a series of bas-reliefs.
