Boardmasters combines surfing, skating and music at the biggest event of its kind in the UK. The music takes place on the cliffs at Watergate Bay, with nine stages of live music encompassing drum and bass, hip hop, dubstep and indie. Then there’s the sport – watch the surfing and sporting competitions over at Fistral Beach, most of which are free for you to attend. If you’re not into the idea of pitching up a tent you can stay in a colourful podpad or a solid “luxpad”, and if you’re lucky enough to be a VIP punter you won’t need to grace a portaloo. Elsewhere there are stalls selling food and hot drinks, surf-related merchandise and bars, and as the website helpfully states, gerbils are not allowed, so don’t be tempted to bring your pet hamster for a surf.
