Primarily a music festival, this event has expanded in recent years to include film screenings, street theatre and exhibitions. The music policy is highly eclectic, including hip hop, electronic music, indie and World music performed outdoors at the city’s main squares. Belgian artists are well represented but international musicians have also featured over the ten years the festival has been in operation, such as Afro Celt Sound System and Mixmaster Mike from the Beastie Boys, while 2011 will see veteran rappers De La Soul and jazz singer Jamie Cullum turning up to perform. Additionally there are barbecues, burlesque shows and an “urban village” with stalls selling handicrafts. At only €30 for a ten day festival pass, it’s also great value for money.
