For over two weeks each summer, Cork hosts a festival of theatre, live music, dance, film and more. The event first began in 1997, and has made a point of showcasing both local and international artists, including big names like Laurie Anderson and Camille O’Sullivan. What sets it apart is that all artists and companies are invited to apply to be a part of the festival, which may account for its diversity – from electronic music to opera, street theatre to acrobatics, and animation to tea dances, there is bound to be something for every preference. The youngest members of the family might enjoy the circus performances, and foodies benefit from a market offering street food and other treats. Most events are ticketed so book in advance.
