West End Festival
The West End Festival is now Glasgow’s largest event.
The West End Festival is now Glasgow’s largest event, and consists of almost an entire month of special events to celebrate summer in the city. Since it began in 1996, the programme has grown and now comprises activities as diverse as whiskey tasting, fashion shows and gourmet barbecues. Then for culture vultures there are exhibitions, art workshops, dance and music – there is so much on you’ll struggle to fit it all in. Check for outdoor activities in the Glasgow Botanic Gardens (Belle and Sebastian played a memorable free gig here in 2004), or for the street parades. In terms of music you’ll find everything from pipe bands to classical to electronic music. Numerous events are free so you won’t even be out of pocket.
